Recertification Criteria Summary
Adult Colonoscopists | |
Criterion | Hurdle |
---|---|
CCRTGE Recognised | Adult Colonoscopy |
Number of Procedures |
At least 150 procedures over the last 3 years.
The most recent 150 procedures will be used in assessment. Procedures must be recorded consecutively (that is EVERY procedure) in blocks of 50 or more. These exclude procedures undertaken with Registrars and for training. These can be blocks of 50 or more at a specific site – to make participation easier for practitioners working across multiple sites. To ensure that the recorded procedures are representative of the practitioner's current practice at least 50 consecutive procedures are to be logged in the 12 months immediately preceding an application for recertification. |
Target Completion | At least 95% to the caecum or terminal ileum in patients with intact colons. |
Adenoma Detection Rate | At least 25% in eligible patients. “Eligible patients” are those who are 50 years of age or older, have intact colons and who did not have an indication of IBD as the reason for their colonoscopy. |
Sessile Serrated Adenoma/Polyp Detection Rate | A growing body of evidence is emerging which demonstrates the importance of SSA/P detection and resection at colonoscopy in the prevention of right-sided interval cancer. Consequently the Committee has determined that SSA/P detection should be included as another measure of quality in colonoscopy and a requirement for recertification. After examining the international literature and the data from within the Recertification program it was decided that the initial SSA/P detection rate will be 4%. This new criterion will be introduced from 1 February 2019 and will only be applicable to logbooks submitted from 1 February 2019. Any logbook submitted up until and including 31 January 2019 will not be subject to this criterion. |
Cognitive Review | Completion of a short, online 'cognitive review' comprising up to 20 multi-choice questions with guidance to the 'most correct' answer(s) and with links to further reading. |
Note:
Paediatric Colonoscopists (Discussions regarding the participation of paediatricians are currently underway) | |
Criterion | Hurdle |
---|---|
CCRTGE Recognised | Paediatric Colonoscopy |
Number of Procedures |
At least 50 procedures over the last 3 years.
The most recent 50 procedures will be used in assessment. Procedures must be recorded consecutively (that is EVERY procedure) in blocks of 50 or more. These exclude procedures undertaken with Registrars and for training. These can be blocks of 17 or more at a specific site – to make participation easier for practitioners working across multiple sites. To ensure that the recorded procedures are representative of the practitioner's current practice at least 17 consecutive procedures are to be logged in the 12 months immediately preceding an application for recertification. |
Target Completion | At least 90% caecal intubation in patients with intact colons AND at least 80% ileal intubation rate in patients with intact colons. |
Adenoma Detection Rate | Not Applicable |
Cognitive Review | Completion of a short, online 'cognitive review' comprising up to 20 multi-choice questions with guidance to the 'most correct' answer(s) and with links to further reading. |
Note:
Paediatric Colonoscopists have different needs and circumstances which are reflected in the system and recertification criteria. It is recognised that paediatric practitioners perform fewer procedures than their counterparts practising adult colonoscopy.
In consultation with the GESA Paediatric Network and based on nationwide paediatric colonoscopy numbers, the Recertification Committee has determined the paediatric Recertification criteria.
